An Interactive Comic on Conservation

Untitled_Artwork 60.png

BACKGROUND
A digital/web magazine focused on sustainability for middle-grade children (grades 4-7) and families. Helping kids to become more aware of world issues outside of themselves.

CHALLENGE
To introduce the complex topic of climate change and sustainable living in a fun and interesting way, to a young audience who are beginning to discover who they are as both global citizens and soon-to-be teens.

SOLUTION

The solution was to use a well-known fairytale to create a comic with a relatable character to make the subject accessible to a young audience. The illustrations were painted in india ink, and the emotional quality of the medium gives the story an expressive, bold, and sensitive feel.

Interactive elements keep the user engaged, and offer the option to listen to the story or read independently.

Using the app Mental Canvas, I created animations out of my 2D paintings and illustrations to create dynamic scenes like the one above.
