Redesigning a Children's Classic
BACKGROUND
A Little Princess is a classic children's book written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, first published as we know it today in 1905. It has since been a favourite on the shelves of kids for generations, and its story and themes are still poignant today.
CHALLENGE
To create a new and fresh design for A Little Princess, to make it both an attractive read for kids today and a collectible edition for grown-up fans of the story.
SOLUTION
The solution was to create a design that draws on Victorian design elements and typographic flourishes from the time of the book's publication, and pairs them with modern illustrations to draw the eye of kids today.
Together, these give the book a whimsical, sensitive intentionality, which make the design one that would have staying power on any bookshelf.
